March 5, 2012 Regular City Council Meeting

Hello Richmond!  There were 5 items on the Agenda for tonight’s meeting.  It was a quick one; I do admire the Mayor’s efficient Parliamentary Procedure.

Here is a copy of the March 5, 2012 Agenda

Here is a copy of the Unofficial 3-5-2012 Minutes (meaning they have not yet been approved by Council).

1. Consideration of Request from Swan Creek Homeowner’s Association for Police Patrol:

  • The 4 condominium associations known here as “Swan Creek” requested the city enforce the Michigan Motor Vehicle Code (MMVC) within their development.  Currently the Richmond Police patrols and enforces misdemeanors in the area, but due to the nature the streets being a private the Richmond PD did not enforce the MMVC.
  • The association will have to pay $68.68 for 2 stop signs.
  • Council approved a Traffic Control Order to authorize the MMVC for one year, which at that time the association will have the opportunity to reinstate the Order. Motion Passed

2. Consideration of Bid Award/Skinner Drive Improvement Project:

  • Construction season is around the corner.  WOOT WOOT right?  This one won’t bother residents much.  It will be on Skinner drive which is the street that leads to industrial businesses and then on to our Industrial Park (which is awaiting for a builder/business owner to build: do you know anyone who needs land?).  The bid was to awarded T.R. Pieprzak in that amount of $249,776.75.  Motion Passed.

3. Consideration of the Confirmation of the Fire Chief:

  • Tonight Council confirmed the appointment of Rob Reindel as Chief.  The following individuals were appointed to leadership by the Volunteer membership: Steve Cooke – Chief 2, Tom Garrant – Chief 3, Save Scheuer – Captain 1, Jerome Schultz – LT 1, Curtis Spens – LT2, Sam Toia – Secretary/Treasurer.  I extend much gratitude  and thanks to Chief Reindel and his crew for their faithful work as the Richmond Volunteer Fire Department.  I am confident that he will continue to be an effective leader as he is gifted with great vision and foresight for the department.  Motion Passed

4. Consideration of Accepting a Resignation from the EDC:

  • Member Hanus resigned from the EDC.  We are required by our by laws to make an official motion on this.  Jim Hanus served the EDC well for the past 7 years and he will be missed.
  • There are openings on EDC.  EDC is the Economic Development Corporation.  EDC has some great ideas stirring; they have already produced great ideas and will continue to do so.  In the near future they will be partnering with TIFA on the TIFA Master Plan.  Here is a link where your may print an application for all the boards the City Charter has deemed we have.  Motion Passed

5. Consideration of Approving Request to Sell Tootsie Rolls/Richmond Knights
of Columbus:

  • Knights of Columbus will be selling their Tootsie Rolls on March 30th & 31st.  This is a great fundraiser that supports the K of C mission of helping the mentally challenged. Motion Passed

I would like to recognize the amazing job our Police department did in February.  After reading our Police Bulletin they had some interesting calls and they rose to the occasion on all of them.  Keep up the great work!  It is a tough job and I am very thankful for you and your service to our City.

Next regular council meeting is Monday March 19, 2012.  Here is link to the 3-19-2012 Agenda

In service,

Jaime Elizabeth Greene

Thank you so much for a simple yet very informative post. I am so thankful you include all the links, it makes it so much easier to find everything. Thank you for representing the people. I know you are doing a good job, don’t let other folks get you down. Please keep the fresh ideas you promised coming. I know more about the happenings of the City now than I ever did.
